Best GTX 970?

I've been considering different GPU's for a new pc build, and I've since settled along the lines of a GTX 970. However, i see many different variants of the 970 from Asus to MSI, and i dont know what the difference between many of them are.

 

So my real question is; Which GTX 970 is the best for the money? (I live in Canada, so currency is $CDN)

i'd say the evga SSC is the best for the money for 970s. hence why i bought one. I was considering the g1 gaming from gygabyte as well. both are great cards, what really made the SSC worth it over the g1 gaming for me was evga's legendary customer service and warranty, and was close enough to the g1 gaming for overclocking.

I, myself, have the MSI 4G model, and it's performing well, but I've heard good things about the Gigabyte G1 and the EVGA cards. If you have a local Canada computers, they sometimes have a 10% rebate on "opened box" cards, which were used for demo(not used on an actual rig), if you ever want to save a bit

Depends on your priorities. EVGA's are among the cheapest, and EVGA is a good company... but in my experience EVGA's cards are noisier than the competition and don't overclock as well. IMO the best GTX 970s you could get are the MSI Gaming and Asus STRIX. They're both extremely quiet and will overclock well... I'd personally go for the MSI over the Asus since I've also had poor experience with Asus GPUs (my Asus GTX 760 and one of my friend's Asus 980s have coil whine).

 

So my #1 choice would be MSI Gaming. Asus Strix would be up there (seems they've improved their cards since the DCUII lineup) as well. And EVGA's standard and superclocked cards are great value if you don't mind a bit of noise and aren't looking to push them phenomenally hard.

My Phantom 530 is quite open and i have never heard much from my gpu. except when i pushed the OC to 1.5 ghz (1519 mhz to be exact). The SSCs increased the power budget to bring up the overclocking closer to that of a G1.

 

but like i said, its their warranty and customer service that won me over. the G1 is still better for overclocking, but it isn't like the SSC can't be pushed hard. Maybe I got a really good card in my machine, but I really couldn't call it loud or a poor overclocker.

In order of best to least recommended (not worst, there really are no bad modern GPU manufacturers)

• Gigabyte G1 Gaming
• MSI Twin Frozr
• EVGA (SC, SSC, ect)
• Asus Strix (coil whine issues)
• Whatever else (Zotac, Gainward, Galax), as they can have some quality control issues.

Imo it's either the msi 4g or the gigabyte g1, I have the msi myself and it runs super cool (20-24c idle, 60 load) and overclocks to 1554mhz (I tried using a custom bios but it just wouldn't go any higher). I know someone with the evga ftw+ which Is supposed to be the best evga card and he paid £50 more than I did and mines better lol.
