Hello there, I need some of the fellow OC'ers to help me out on this one...

I am in the midst of overclocking my CPU, and I've run into a sort of loop.

I know i can get the pentium at a stable OC of 4.3ghz, and it can boot up to 4.7ghz.

But my problem is stablilizing it. I have been getting a bit of attitude from the ring voltage, trying to keep it relative to the cpu ratio at stock ring voltage is a no go.

Trying one Mhz below the cpu ratio at stock ring voltage gives boot, but is really unstable no matter the voltage.

So my OC is ring related.

Trying equal ratios at ring 1.2v is a no go.

Trying 100Mhz lower at ring 1.2v is a no go.

But at stock ring voltage, it's all good for bootup, but I cannot stablilize it for the life of me.

I might be missing something. I'm still a novice with the whole OC niche, and need some ring help.

Specs:

Pentium G3258 (duh)

Z97-G45 MSI

4GB G.SKILL 1600mhz (no xmp)

CX 600m (Dont even talk about this.)

I haven't needed to go over CPU voltage of 1.4v for stable boot.

The temps are being well handled at below 60°c with my AiO. So thermal isnt the issue.

No OC of the GPU, so yeah.

it's a no go and it's useless...keep ring at stock and focus on your core multiplier...ring bus won't affect performance to any noticeable amount anyways.

Fiar enough. But why is it that in guides (yeah yeah, guides) it had recommended 1.2v set for ring voltage? Seems like it would need to help somehow if they are even bringing it up.

you can raise the voltage of the ring bus it might indeed help with stability but increasing the ring bus multiplier certainly won't...also the VCCIN or CPU imput voltage to around 1.8/1.9v will also make sure you get stability as good as possible. (not CORE voltage, watch out make sure you have the correct one...1.9V on the wrong spot can kill your chip...)

I will definitely take the ring back to auto, see if just uping the voltage will make it more stable.and thanks alot :) I learned something new today. I will update if i can get a stable OC by the nights end.

Well, 4.5ghz @1.375v not good. But not something I didn't already expect. Oh well, unless i get into ln2, not gonna break any records. :/
