Yea, you need an 8 core AMD CPU to handle a 970, and even then you will have some bottlenecks.

CPU: INTEL Core i7 4790k @ 4.7Ghz - Cooling: NZXT Kraken X61 - Mobo: Gigabyte Z97X SLI - RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ares 2400mhz - GPU: AMD Sapphire Nitro R9 Fury 4G - Case: Phanteks P350X - PSU: EVGA 750GQ - Storage: WD Black 1TB - Fans: 2x Noctua NF-P14s (Push) / 2x Corsair AF140 (Pull) / 3x Corsair AF120 (Exhaust) - Keyboard: Corsair K70 Cherry MX Red - Mouse: Razer Deathadder Chroma

Bit of an AMD fan I suppose. I don't bias my replies to anything however, I just prefer AMD and their products. Buy whatever the H*CK you want.

It probably will. If you'll go AMD you will need Fx 8350 or up. For Intel any i5 would probably do the job without bottlenecking.

I would upgrade to an Intel Core i5, but that is just me because I am more of an Intel person. If you are an AMD person, that is just fine, because I don't want to push people out of their comfort zone and tell them that a certain brand is crappy, but that is aside the point.

I would say get an FX 8320/8350. Or get an Intel CPU, but I believe you need to buy another motherboard.

My FX-8320 (almost got enough money to upgrade to a 5820k, waiting is killing me) bottlenecks my 970 at stock speeds, but a nice overclock to 4.5GHz pretty much fixed that. You should really get an i-5 k series, intel cpus are far superior to amd tbh

CPU: i7-8700K

Motherboard: ASUS Prime Z370-A

Memory: 32GB TridentZ RGB

GPU: Gigabyte GTX970 G1 Gaming
Storage: 256GB Samsung 850 Pro, 4TB WD Black, 1TB Seagate somethingorother
