CPU & GPU for Adobe Creative Suite CC

Go to solution Solved by thekeemo,

4690 and 290x?

Or 4460 and 290x

Unless the 290x is more expensive than the 970 in the EU

(Dat opencl rendering yo)

Actually get a low end xeon

AutoCAD isn't the most intensive things and runs fine on ani7 960 and he 5540 so no worries there

Hello, so I'm going to buy a new computer soon, and I cannot decide between getting:

1. i5 4690K with GTX 960

2. i5 4460 with GTX 970

What would be the best option for using Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, AE, Illustrator and sometimes AutoCAD. Is GPU important in those programs? I want to know how much would I gain having a better CPU worse GPU or worse CPU better GPU. Don't count gaming in, I know 970 is miles ahead but I want to know about rendering video, editing photos, etc.

you only need the K when overclocking, you can get the i5-4690 if you are not overclocking.

I know, I will buy Z97 mobo with 4690K, B85 with 4460, tell me what's better.

idk, im in the exact situation as you, but i am getting a build for photoshop and lightroom only  :)

(if you want to save money, get a xeon because it doesnt have iGPU, this saves cost, for example: the i7-4790 costs 40$ more than the Xeon E3-1241 v3 but is the same chip, only the xeon has no iGPU so that's 40$ saved...)

Honestly, i'd get the 4460 + 970.

You'll see a bigger increase going from the 960 to the 970 than you will going from the 4460 to the 4690k.

For Adobe CC, CPU is more important unless you have one of the supported cards. Some features are accelerated with the file hack with unsupported cards so depends on what you'll be doing in CC. GPU for CAD.

Zeus: Dual Xeon E5-2695v3 | 128GB DDR4 ECC | Asus Z10PE-D16 WS | 2-way SLI EVGA GTX 980 SC ACX 2.0 | Corsair AX1200i | Fractal Design Define XL R2 | Das KB & Razor Chroma mouse

Yoda: HP DL380p Gen8 | Dual Xeon E5-2697v2 | 256GB DDR3 ECC | Dual Nvidia Tesla K40c | Dual 1200w PSU | 3X 146GB 15K SAS 2.5" HDD | CentOS 7 | Headless

I will mostly be rendering videos, sometimes edit pictures. AutoCAD very rarely. Also, I am going to get a better SSD, PSU if I go with the 960.

I use photoshop with my 4690k and 970 a lot and the only time it really takes time to do something is in the 3D workspace, everything else quick and responsive.

I think the best opinion there is probably the 4690k, CC is more CPU dependent and 4460 isn't that much slower then the 4690k at stock clocks but I did see a noticeable improvement in rendering when I overclocked my 4690k. I would only go for the 970 if you are going to be using CAD the most but if you use CC more then get the 4690k.

If I were you I would save up just a little more and get a 4690k and a 970.

CPU: 6600K @ 4.6Ghz | COOLER: H100i GTX | MOBO: Asus Z170 AR | GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 Ti Hybrid | RAM: G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB |

CASE: Corsair 760T | PSU: Corsair RM750x | STORAGE: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB & Seagate 2TB | KEYBOARD: K70 RGB | MOUSE: Deathadder Elite

That "a little more" is 150€, so no, thanks.

290x is 60€ more expensive than 970, and there are no Xeons from the shop I'm buying from.

CPU  : The Xeon is far better for anything that imply rendering and is at the same price as the 4690K

GPU : What matters for photoshop is the Memory Interface Width, the higher the (significantly) better. Same goes for illustrator. AE and premiere depends on cuda at some extend.

Ultimately your CPU and your rams are going to have the biggest impact on your performance though. Picking the Xeon would be the best investment as it would give you access to DDR4 16GB sticks.

For the GPU the 970 would be the best choice out of the 2 but you should actually look for an older video card. The 580 for instance has a really wide memory interface.
