Hi,

I have recently purchased the Asus sabertooth 990fx r2.0 MB. Not sure if the bios is the latest one. I have read about the USB BIOS Flashback utility but am not sure how to go about it.

Can someone please make a step-by-step guide/tutorial for it?

Thanks in advance.

Your poor person the fx line of CPU's are terrible, I take it you didn't know this when buying the motherboard.

FX CPUs have their place. They are cheap and beat out their Pentium and i3 competition.

Bios flashback utility should only be used in a emergency scenario like board wont post during bios update failure or cpu isn't supported with current bios. For proper bios update, run it from a USB flash drive and update within the bios itself or a much easier method, within windows. Updating from USB within bios is the preferred option. For instructions go to the board's website and they will have step by step instructions on how to update the bios.

But the CPU is supported by the MB only from a certain bios version. If the version is lesser, will I be able to boot?

The bios is almost always fully backwards compatible.

FX CPUs have their place. They are cheap and beat out their Pentium and i3 competition.

I used to believe this too, then I realized the X4 series and cheaper i5's leave the fx series no place left.

Phenoms don't go as high in performance and here in Canada, they aren't readily available. Even the cheapest i5 is quite a bit more expensive than a 6300 or even an 8320 (also in Canada) and doesn't support fun features like overclocking.

It does suport some better features though, the main one is it not being utter shit.

1: For most users, Intel's features aren't useful

2: Calling something "utter shit" isn't a proper argument.

There CPU's since when we're they supposed to have features?

Hyperthreading and such. You mentioned them yourself.

The FX CPU's don't have hyperthreading.

I know, I am saying that most people won't use it. It is starting to seem like you are trolling.

Ohhkkkkk

Another question.

I know that for the system to recognize more than 4GB RAM i gotta install a 64-bit OS.

Till now i was using Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit.

I got the Windows 7 Ultimate CD containing the 64 bit version also.

Should i upgrade to the Windows 8 or 8.1 instead?

Will all the games and programs running on Windows 7 32 or 64 bit work on Windows 8?

Just run Windows 7 64 bit then get the free upgrade to windows 10.
