I download music for free and put it onto my iPad all the time. Just have the music in your iTunes library and sync it with your phone.

It's possible indeed.  Of course the copyright mafia would like me to remind you that the "free" music should indeed be be free, not pirated.

Oh, and there's no such thing as a dumb question.  We're good at giving dumb answers though.

Itunes can do that conversion but it'll convert into AAC format instead which is slightly smaller in size but has same audio quality. I'm not on my macbook right now sorry i can't tell you exactly how to do it . basically something with add to library iinm.

yeah - Drag it onto itunes - sync it with your phone
