Everyone excited about the new 10TB He drives from HGST?!?!

ChineseChef

The long and short of it is, 10TB Helium using SMR.  Essentially like the 8TB Seagate archive drive but larger and Helium filled.  Main purpose is for active archival data, such as cold storage data centers.

Naturally they will be expensive and as they are currently designed won't work well as plug and play drives due to requiring Host-Managed SMR.  These will work great for datacenters that use custom disk management software anyways though.

Key for us is that it will put some competition and downward pressure on the super high capacity storage market.  More options are always better.

Not sure if this should be a news post, but figured really mostly just the people in here would even care.
