The title says it all.  I am thinking about building a new system, but I don't know if I should include an i7 4790k or an i7 5820k, which uses an X99 board instead of Z97, and going with Z97 will save me above $300 on my system.  I am doing gaming, streaming, and a little bit of rendering.  Should I buy X99 or just get the Z97 to save money for other things?

X99 isn't something I'd recommend for the average consumer since it's price is much higher on average than the equivalent Z97 chipset. if you really need extra memory and up to 8 core CPUs then go X99 but for gaming, streaming and some light rendering Z97 will be much better.

Depends on how often if your very serious about it and you do it like daily then yes. If its not that often then its a waste.

No. You will get less performance in gaming as gaming favors fewer, faster cores.

Please provide more information on how often you will be streaming and rendering?

I told you that I won't be rendering a lot, but I'll be streaming a few of times a week during the summer.

I'm glad I chose x79

There's something about having 12 threads

and potentially having 64 gb of ram

also you'll worry less if you want to add more pci0e cards
