currently i have a 650 ti boost with 2gb Vram and and an msi cooler. My friends being a bro and offering to trade his 760 for my 650 ti boost. the thing is he says he doesn't know if its worth doing it because the 760 he has is from an alien ware pc and has the stock nvidia cooler (yes the single black fan one thats plastic) and only 1.5gb of vram. otherwise there are no problems with it. should i trade? i play games like gta v so i dont know if that 1.5gb of vram will be good or not.

1.5 gb of vram is not that great for gaming if you are going to play modern titles like gtaV, your're probably going to get similar if not worse performance.

Well, with an i7, GTX 1080, Full tower and flashy lights, it can obviously only be for one thing:

Solitaire.

a r9270x is going to get you better performance, its about the equivalent of a 660ti

Never heard of a 760 with 1.5GB of ram before, sounds fishy. You could always ask him to run benchmarks and see where the performance stands.

There's all kinds of weird OEM stuff that we've never heard of around here.

http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-760-oem/specifications

To compare: http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-760/specifications

Honestly I think it's really hard to say if it would be an upgrade or not. It has a reduced 192-bit memory bus but the GPU core is intact from the retail 760. I suspect it would end up being slightly faster than a 650 Ti Boost. It's not like either of these cards are going to be running GTA V at particularly high, memory-abusing settings anyway.

actually i do play the game on high at around 50. if i become less lazy i might OC it and get up to 60 so currently im happy with the performance was just thinking hey its a free upgrade.

Fire up GPU-Z or MSI Afterburner during a gaming session and see how much VRAM it's reporting in use. If it's 1.5 GB or lower, chances are this would be an upgrade.

Would your friend let you swap it in to try it, with the possibility to swap back?
