so this is my pc, http://pcpartpicker.com/p/zxKPHx, mind you it was my first build, but it runs fine for me and it was a bit rushed. so my question is what mobo and intel cpu should i use if i want to play most or all games 1080p with 60fps and for work and rendering videos and such, i know my gpu isnt the best but i do plan on getting a better one as well. price range, around 800 for mobo cpu and gpu.

Even with an Intel CPU, that GPU won't get you 60fps at 1080p in demanding games. Assuming you upgrade to something like an R9 290/GTX 970, and that you already have a good aftermarket cooler, I'd do this:

Motherboard: ASRock Z97 Anniversary ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($82.98 @ Newegg)

He already has a better cooler.

Basically a 4690K and the Z97 mobo you most fancy. You can check Luke's value Z97 motherboard videos (parts 1,2,3).

I'd suggest waiting until the end  of the month for the GPU.

If you can keep your current mobo/CPU in another computer it would render videos really well. This would be great, the big thing is the GPU upgrade. The CPU upgrade is just kinda so that the 970 isn't bottlenecked. The CPU is definitely not the weakest link in your current build, it's that 270x

Basically what I listed is perfect. If you want to upgrade your GPU, you'd want to upgrade your CPU as well so that it doesn't bottleneck your system. If you only have the money to upgrade one or the other right now, it'd be the GPU. Having an FX-6300 and GTX 970 for now would be better than an i5 and R9 270x, you'd just have to deal with the FX-6300 holding the 970 back for a little while until you can upgrade your CPU

BUT! If you play MMOs or like to emulate games, the i5 now would be much better since graphics in MMOs aren't usually a problem. The FX-6300 does very poorly when it comes to MMOs and emulation. (Most emulators are limited to dual-core usage)

If you can afford an i5 and GTX 970 at the same time go for both!

so just saying, what if i want an i7, since everyone has been showing me i5 only. shouldnt i just spend the extra 100 bucks for an i7 or does it not matter to much?

The i7 doesn't boast many advantages over the i5. It's an i5 with hyperthreading, which means anything using more than 4 threads will benefit. For video rendering sure it will be faster, but if you have to cut on the GPU it's not worth it. i5+GTX 970 > i7+GTX 960 in most cases

I would go with something like this, if you do a lot of rendering on your PC you will benefit from the hyperthreading of the i7. You could also replace the i7 with the xeon equivalent if you have no desire to overclock.
