What kind of FPS/ setting should I get with BF4 and Arma 3 if the cards only have 1gb vram at 1080p?

How would 7850 1gb crossfire compare to HD 7870 2gb single card?

Specs:
FX-6300

16gb ram

Not when I already have one and am getting another for free.

Also, one is 1gb, the other is 2gb, but xfire makes them both 1gb.

So my question, how would it do, and how would it compare to single 2gb HD 7870

1gb vram would limit you fairly hard on games. games like bf4 would eat 1gb vram at medium 1080p settings.

bf4 maxed out at 1080p uses about 1.9gb

i can't speak for arma3 but with its visuals I'd say much the same.

I used to own a 2gb 6950 and that could play bf4 on high to ultra with a few settings lowered.

I'd sell your current gpu and fund something new.

You will be dialling back settings due to 1GB... the HD 7870 will outpace 1GB crossfire due to more memory in later titles.

when vram is the limiting factor you could have 100 cards and still perform poorly.

if the second card is free and 2gb ditch the 1gb..

I can BF4 med-high on my single HD 7850 1gb.

IK new GPU would be Ideal, but it also would have been ideal to not spend 500$ on a computer case and custom loop when i have a non OC FX-6300 and 1gb HD 7850.

I dont do things the "Ideal" way

Will it though?

The crossfire has more raw power, just less vram.

True, but is vram really the limiting factor?

I guess the best thing would be just to test it.

well if you're happy playing on low settings then no vram isn't an issue.

but if you want to crank everything up then yes most certainly the weakest part would be the 1gb of vram.

its getting to the stage where 3 to 4gb is the required amount. some games (shadow of mordor) will use even more.
