hello all,

i have an asus laptop that came preloaded with windows 8,1 and I want to format the laptop and reinstall a fresh version of windows 8.1.

now when i went to microsoft's website to download winows 8.1 i only found windows 8,1 SP1 and when i check under system the windows edition on my laptop it doesn't say "SP1" it only says "windows 8.1 single language"

will downloading sp1 be fine or do i have a different version of windows 8.1?

You can "reinstall" windows 8.1 from within 8.1.

Go to the PC Settings thing, then go to update and recovery, then go to recovery, and click "Get Started" under "Remove everything and reinstall windows"

Windows 8.1 doesnt have a service pack ,last time windows had service packs was with Windows7. Before someone really anal comes here and tries to invalidate my statement, Windows8 had a major update (which might be called Service pack) and it was renamed to 8.1

Maybe he doesn't want all the junk that the OEM's put on their laptops.

You should be able to reinstall Windows 8.1 without problem, just be sure the install the same version, the key is in your laptop firmware.

are you sure it won't reinstall all the extra stuff?

Pretty sure, though I've never tried it on a laptop before.

It will reinstall OEM crap, it will use the hidden partition.

Well, its still easier than going through and finding a new disk that'll work.

Removing that crap ain't hard, just takes a few minutes.
