I'm upgrading one component in my computer and I'd like to know if there are any bottlenecks in my system.

My Specs:

Gigabyte Z68A-D3-B3

Intel i3-2100

AMD Radeon HD 5770

Corsair XMS3 (8 GB)

Intel 330 (240 GB)

I also might upgrade my monitor. Are there any high resolution (Higher than 1920x1080 and 1920x1200) monitors that are under 27 inches?

One part always has to be a bottleneck, otherwise you would have infinite performance. I don't know upgrade what you need, I don't think there is anything there that really stands out that needs to be upgraded because it is really holding everything else back. If it was me the GPU and CPU would be next in line for an upgrade for that system.

That's what I was thinking. I just can't decide between the GPU or CPU. I do some video editing so I'm thinking about a 3770K. The thing is that it's out my budget.

What is your budget? This is a vital question that needs to be asked when upgrading and building a system. As others have stated' date=' I'd personally upgrade the CPU however if youve got a decent budget you might be able to do more![/quote']

It's around $200 or so. A little more it fine though

personally if i want to run a high res monitor like the pb278q i would upgrade to the 3570k and a gtx680

Agreed, maybe not to those exact parts depending on your budget but I would personally upgrade the CPU and GPU before getting a higher resolution monitor.

And if it's mostly for video editing the FX-8350 wouldn't actually be a bad choice, and it's cheap... But you would have to replace your motherboard...

Honestly I'd rather stick with Intel. I can't afford another motherboard and a new CPU either.

If you are on a tight budget concider a CPU upgrade... There are i5's for a good price that can go with that motherboard... Than save some more for a GPU... All depends on your budget m8 :-) !

If you're being CPU bottlenecked in certain games, turning down your graphical settings shouldn't yield any increase in FPS, it should stay roughly the same, however, I don't know how to test for a GPU bottleneck.

System specs:  CPU: AMD Phenom II x3 705e unlocked to x4 overclocked to 2.8GHz   |   MB: ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS   |   Cooler: Hyper 212+   |   GPU: MSI GTX 560ti OC to 910Mhz   |   RAM: 8GB PNY DDR3 1333   |   HDDS: WD Caviar Blue 320GB, Hitachi 500GB HDD   |   PSU: Cooler Master Extreme Power Plus 500W   |   Peripherals: Microsoft wireless mouse, old mac keyboard, ASUS VS238H, Gateway FPD2275W, some speakers, Logitech Driving Force Pro

It does this in Grand Theft Auto. I can lower the settings all the way and still get 24fps. If I raise it up all the way I'll still get 24.

actually bottle necking is where the performance of a component is limited by another component. so because you cpu can't keep up with a game enough to where your not getting the full performance from your graphics card then that's a bottleneck but if your components are all yielding the performance they were designed for you are not experiencing a bottleneck.

The GPU would never bottleneck your CPU. It will only bottleneck your system graphically. Okay here's my suggestion for the CPU upgrade first. If you're not gonna overclock and can't afford to get a new motherboard get the i5-3470. It's still four cores and a great CPU and plus it's exactly $200. Now for the graphics card if you want to get that first go with the 7850 although if you prefer the Nvidia go with the 650ti. Those two GPU's are decent for under $200 and the only ones I would suggest with your budget but both are entry level or close to medium range video cards. The 7850 is around 170 USD and the 650ti is around 160 USD

depends what you want to upgrade

Anything that could be a possible bottleneck. Would my CPU be a bottleneck for my graphics card?

i dought the cpu will bottleneck your gpu, if gaming is what you want you could upgrade to the likes of the 7770 for around 100 bucks and get about 20-30 percentage increase of fps given the same quality setting. but if you still think the cpu is were you want to upgrade id get the i5 2550k at least then you can overclock abit :-)

that seams like a hugh overkill compared to the rest of the system but yeah that would be deadly if he/she could afford it

If you live in the US and you're anywhere near a Microcenter, get your CPUs there. They sell them at a loss to get you into the store to buy other things, but if you stick to your budget, you can come out way ahead.
