Will electrical tape be enough?

I have an original Xbox controller that has the rubber coating on the wiring missing at a point up near the top of the controller cable but I am sure this controller still works.  Now if I put electrical tape over this exposed area is this enough to make it safe to use?  Is there anything else I can do?

Sure, that should work fine. I have seen plenty of iPhone chargers undergoing the same treatment.

since there is no real high voltage even letting them en plain air would be fine for your fingers but not for the controller... cover it and you will solve your dilemma

I've had this happen a couple billion times. Always use electrical tape. Always works. Until the tear gets worse. Without it you wouldn't need to worry anyways.
