OK so the new 8GBs of ram that I just added to my excising 8GBs wasn't working at first but now I have it working. That's great but I loaded up GTA V to confirm (I all ready checked cpu z to see if I had 16 GBs and both CPU and the BIOS said I have 16 GBs) then I noticed that in GTA V that it said I had 8 GBs. I also noticed that in CPU Z it said I was running Dual channel. I don't know what is the problem, am I supposed to be running Quad channel or what?

No. You ARE runing ual channel. Even if you have 4 RAM sticks your motherboard and CPU only support DUAL CHANNEL you would need X99 (Extreme) platform in order to run QUAD CHANNEL. It is fine.

Regarding GTA only recognizing 8GB .. I dont know.

I do believe the 8 gigs that GTA is talking about is the dedicated RAM it will be using. If your task manager, HWmonitor, and such is saying 16gb, you are good.

CPU: Pentium G3258 @ 3.2GHz || GPU:(first release,used) MSI R9 270 OC || Motherboard:MSI Z97-G45 Gaming Motherboard || RAM: 8 GB G.Skill Sniper 1600 || Monitors: Vizio 22 in Ultra slim 1080p TV || Storage: Seagate barracuda 160 GB 7200RPM,(REFURB) 1TB toshiba 7200RPM || PSU: (stripped from 2013 CAD PC)Corsair CX600 build was under $420

but I need more than 8GBs in GTA V to run it in 4k since I have a 4k monitor

Depends, you got a good enough GPU? 4k kinda depends more on the GPU more then the onboard RAM.

That 8gb of ram is VRAM from your R9 295X2

No because the card has useable 4GBs because it is a dual gpu card and each gpu on the card has 4GBs

Have you tried to see if the the gameplay is better with the 16GB?

It's not because I have been playing in 1080p and the whole reason I upgraded Ram was for GTA V in 4k, also in 1080p it never exceeded 8 GBs of ram

Ok, so as the previous guy said (I cant @ him cus Im on mobile),

The 8GB is the amount of VRAM being used. I know this because I played GTA last night, and remember seeing it saying it was using 1804 mb out of 2096mb. This was referring to my R9 270.

You must remember that there could be bottlenecks in your system. Not just RAM, but with the CPU, and even the motherboard itself. See about reinstalling GTAV fixes the issue. Seems like a waste if it doesnt work, but thats all I can think.
