I have a 500 gb western digital blue drive that runs great but I filled it up so I bought a wd 2tb green and a 120 silicon power ssd. I know how to move my games but I want to know is there a way I can move just my os( Windows 7) to the ssd and make the 500gb blue hdd storage. If it's not that easy then what files make up Windows os so I can move all my personal files to the green drive then clone the oss to the ssd

Cloning is a thing. or make an image of your OS and install it onto your SSD.

CPU: Pentium G3258 @ 3.2GHz || GPU:(first release,used) MSI R9 270 OC || Motherboard:MSI Z97-G45 Gaming Motherboard || RAM: 8 GB G.Skill Sniper 1600 || Monitors: Vizio 22 in Ultra slim 1080p TV || Storage: Seagate barracuda 160 GB 7200RPM,(REFURB) 1TB toshiba 7200RPM || PSU: (stripped from 2013 CAD PC)Corsair CX600 build was under $420

Hey Utewar and welcome to the community :)

As the guys explained, you have a couple of options the the most problem-free and the most recommended one would be to simply make a clean install of your OS on the SSD an then reinstall all your programs and games. You can then access all your files on the HDD with no trouble.

Another option is cloning, but it is not recommended to clone a larger HDD onto a smaller SSD because there's a chance that some of the data would be misses and the OS on the new drive would be corrupted. Also when moving the OS from a HDD to a SSD the newer drive has a chance to be recognized as a HDD and miss out important features such as TRIM and be harmful for the SSD. If you are going with cloning, I would recommend using Acronis True Image WD Edition: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=FwCwyF

As @G33k 4 L1F3 suggested, you can also create an image of your boot partition and restore in onto the SSD with a system repair disk. Here's a link with more explanations with that: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/restore-computer-from-system-image-backup#1TC=windows-7

*snip*

Most cloning applications that I have used don't actually allow you to clone a larger install to a smaller drive, like say you have a 100 gigs drive you are ghosting to and your OS is 110 gigs, they'll usually throw an error.

Motherboard: MSI G45 | CPU: Intel i7 4790K | RAM: 16GB G.Skill DDR3 | SSD: 2x Samsung 840 Evo 256GB | Graphics: EVGA GTX 1080 FTW | PSU: Corsair HX650W | Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo | Fans: 6x Corsair SP120's | Case: NZXT H440 Razer Edition | OS: Windows 10

Yes, that is true and it is always recommended to clone to a similar drive (HDD to HDD or SSD to SSD) and the destination drive to be as large or larger in capacity. :) Some applications do allow boot partition transfer as they are re-sizing them. Ultimately, a fresh install would be the most problem-free way. :)
