Im recently a PC gaming convert, this may sound a silly question but how does headphones work on a PC in terms of in game sound and voice chat?

I ask because Im used to the xbox where the sound comes through the TV and i chat on a headset, the headset sound is only speech from other players.

Is that the same on PC or do you have in game sound and chat both coming through the earphones?

How does that work, do you get a choice? what do you prefer?

Many thanks

TC

On pc, if you have one soundcard( ie just the soundcard on your motherboard ) everything will come out from your default audio device, either speakers or headphones, now if you also have a pcie/pci/usb soundcard, you can select one thing to come out of the speakers which will be connected to lets say, onboard audio, and skype audio to come out from earphones which are connected to another soundcard.

Dont know if that made sense but feel free to ask if something isnt clear!

Hey there. You are looking mighty fine today, have my virtual cookie!

You can choose where the sound comes from on the PC. It is completely customazable.

Also welcome to PC gaming where everything is better!  :)

if you choose it to it will all come out one source. or you can choose to have the default audio as one source (speakers via soundcard) and have the voice chat be it teamspeak mumble or other output to the onboard audio hooked to headphones. or vice versa depending on what you want

edit: it would be douchebaggy to have outside speaker noise if you are talking into voice chat. I want to punch my monitor when I can hear the voice chat echo

the only thing worse than the voice chat echo is hearing someones smoke alarm chirps because they are too lazy to change their battery. I seem to find these lazy asses in Xbox games all the time.
