I am looking at two power supplies right now, but I don't know which is better. The first is the SeaSonic M12II 620 Bronze and the second is the EVGA 120-G1-0650-XR. I think the evga one would be slightly better, but I'm not an expert on PSUs. So which one is better and by how much, as they change prices quite a bit.

i'm gonna start by the most obvious difference: seasonic = 80+ bronze, evga = 80+ gold. gold is more efficient than bronze, but both are acceptable.

The Seasonic model is a bit higher quality, the EVGA one has a better feature set (higher efficiency).

I would get seasonic. I don't really care about power efficiency and power bills.

The seasonic one defiantly

Ok, at this point I'll probably get whichever is cheaper, as it seems like they are pretty even. I'll probably go for the evga now, as it has more PCIe power connectors and better efficiency. If anybody gives proof that the season is better though, then I may go with that.

I would go with Seasonic for their reputation but the fact the EVGA has 10 year warranty (Seasonic one has 5) I don't know. To be honnest, I tihnk I would still go with a Seasonic.

Well I really want all black cables, so I don't really want the antec. The evga one looks good, but depending on how the rebate card works, I may or may not be able to get it. Would it be like a mail in rebate, promo code, gift card, or something different? I'm trying to keep the initial cost down, so I don't want to use something like a mail in rebate. Another question is would the gs550 be good as well, I probably won't be doing sli or anything, so it should be good enough for cheaper.

But, the G1 sucks. http://www.overclock.net/t/1476935/why-you-should-not-buy-an-evga-supernova-nex650g-750g-aka-g1

@Biferony don't even bother with the EVGA, It's just hyped for efficiency. The Seasonic is hands down better

i'm not claiming to know anything about PSUs, i was just pointing out the obvious difference.

to be honest, i havent heard all that much good from EVGA, other than very specific people about their gpus.

The GS and G2 are good, but for some reason people now worship all of their PSUs

its because model numbers are difficult, and my gigabyte HD 5770 fell apart, so i'm personally probably not gonna buy gigabyte products again.

(i hope you get that point)

yeah lol, but one company's bad product still shouldn't mean that all of them are bad, or vice versa

what i'm trying to reach here is, it cuts both ways.

if theres a new fruits store down the street, and you go there to buy an apple, and its the GREATEST APPLE EVER. you're going to recommend that store, because you liked the apple.

if you go to that same store, you buy an apple, and you have the bad luck you have that one apple that has something inside it, you're not gonna recommend the store, are you?

--

very limited testing sizes (one system) make people based on very few experiences, and thus will make a decision on flukes.

i had a medion system catch fire randomly, theres millions out there that are fine, but i'm not touching medion with a 10ft pole anymore.

Well this is why I only recommend products that I use for a while not just once or bought once since everyone has a different experience, that way you can be secure but that also doesn't give an excuse for a bad product you don't go talking bad about a company for a problem that could of been in the projected error, there's always going to be a bad apple and it really all matters if you are the unlucky one to get that bad apple

Apples are in much greater variety then PSUs or GPUs, there's no way to make sure what you're getting, and the overall variancy is very slow as apples evolved over millions of years.

This is more like Ford's old Focus sucked but their newer generation Focus that's heavily redesigned is now a much better vehicle and as a result you shouldn't hate on Ford as a company because of their old Focus, and that just because one vehicle by Saturn is good, doesn't mean that all the others are.

Well @lee32uk mentioned the gs650, so now I'm mainly looking at the gs550, which seems like its good for cheaper than the others. I also won't be doing anything crazy like multi-gpu setups, so it should be plenty powerful.

i generally like using food, because EVERYONE likes reading about food, and its an easy thing to grasp, even for the less tech savvy folks.

and really, as much as you can have a bad and good apple, you can have the bad luck of having that one DOA power supply.

ps, networks are onions ;)

No, the 650W G1 does not suck. It's just not great. The Seasonic is a bit higher quality. Not a huge difference since the Seasonic is rather old-fashioned itself.

G1 is better on minor rail regulation, specifically 5V, because your SSD needs that great Vreg.
