So, just like the name of the thread implies, I am currently building a small low end Linux PC inside the case of a power supply. The reason that I even came to the point of this is because in one of my classes my professor has given us some small PC-104 size boards that come with a passively cooled 400MHz VIA CPU, 128MB DDR SO-DIMM RAM, and the version of Linux will be running off a 2GB Compact Flash card. I also am going to be using a 90w Pico PSU to power it so I don't have to use a whole other ATX sized power supply for a board that maybe uses 14w total. My only problem right now is that the power cables are a little strange, since it is using a 20pin ATX cable adapter and in order to use the switch on the front of the case as a power on and off switch I have to "guess" which wire is ground. My professor told me he would hopefully be able to show me how to power it on monday so I won't be able to play with it till then. After that the only thing left to do is to cut holes in the back of the case for the IO ports. Here are some pictures:

@Drethstoff: Haha yeah, but this power supply was an old Logisys one that I have had for a while that recently died and took my motherboard with it, so it needed to be gutted! MWAHAHAHA

  • 1 month later...

So I know it's been quite a while since I last said anything about this build but it is mostly because it was a longer period before my professor had us work with these boards than I thought it would be. I cut holes in the case for the IO and I got the power plug put in nicely so it doesn't flop around or anything. I did end up having to take the fan out of the top of the case since there was not enough room for it with the picoPSU in there as well. Here is a picture of it up and running, I have it running Debian 2.6 and was running lynx here to view reddit since I was testing out some frame buffer option to get pictures view able with out a GUI.
