3 980 Tis or 2 Titan X

Xv Ghostly vX

Should I buy 3 980 Ti

Or

2 Titan X

I think the 3 980 Tis would have better performance but would I have SLI issues? How many fps on ultra settings at 4k could I expect to get?

980 tis would indeed be more powerful, I'd go for that instead of the titan xs, as I'm fairly sure the titan x already has some cooling issues, and the non-reference choices for the 980ti would probably help with cooling quite a lot.

I'd say at least 80FPS on ultra settings at 4K.

You should get two 980Ti's first and see what that does.

That's it??? Only 50 fps. Are you kidding me? It has to be more than that. At least 80 or so right?

yeah, 290X CF can hit 60 fps on ultra in a lot of games so I doubt it

That is all.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

I said at least 40-50FPS, which includes everything on past 50FPS...

Idk what that guy was thinking...

290x CF can hit 60 fps easily

So I would say for 3 980ti's about 100+?

Do you have a link to benchmarks showing 290x's in crossfire at 60FPS ultra 4K? I'm interested.

A single 980ti averages a solid 30fps in Witcher 3 MAX settings (no aa). So id assume 3-way SLI an average 100 FPS in pretty much any newer title. Any thing older you'll jut blow it out of the ball park.

Yes it'll be more than that, depending on the game.

Sli scaling gets worse as more gpus are added. I'd guess between 70-90 fps with 3 way sli is what you should expect for 4k gaming. But who knows What's going to happen when games are optimized for directx 12. Could see well over 100 fps in newer titles.

there are 3 rules to sli

1. Never get more than 2 cards, otherwise you WILL get some seriously bad stutter and tremendous heat output.

2. Get one card first, then get another if it's still not enough juice

3. If you are planning to SLI, always get the one just below the flagship model, like the GTX 970 instead of 980 back before the Titan X and 980 ti came out. Now, 2 980 ti's are likely going to be the gold standard for nvidia for a while.

Ah yes DirectX12. Imagine if it does combine VRAM. Titan X's will no longer be bought by anyone logical lol also optimizing. Maybe.. Maybe.. Still 70-90 FPS IS Great. 980Ti in SLI will be enough then add a 3rd if it's not enough I'd say

I think you could get about twelve fps's with that.
