JUST gaming? If that is the case, then go with an i5-4670K. You dont need SB-E for gaming. 4670K + 780 (SLI if you can squeeze it into your budget) will give you a super powerful gaming machine.

I like the color scheme of Noctua fans. Deal with it. Forget about the bad memories of the past.

For gaming 4670k and a 780 and save 100$

You'll probably save more than that because most of the x79 motherboards are more expensive than z87 boards.

Although not cost effective right now, If you're a game + heavy tasker like me, an I7-4770K isn't a BAD option just not optimal.

Specs: Core I7-2600K @ 4.5GHz @ 1.35V, 4x4GB Corsair Vengeance Black 1600MHz CL9, Cooler Master Evo 212, MSI Z77 Mpower Motherboard, Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 Vapor-X @ 1000/1400, Cooler Master HAF 932 Blue Edition w/ 3 Cougar Hydraulic Bearing 120MM fans (2 up top 1 in the bottom) replaced side panel with a window, and rear fan with a Cougar Hydraulic Bearing 140MM, Cooler Master GX 650 80+ Bronze PSU, Samsung DVD-RW, Samsung 840 Pro 128GB SSD, Seagate 750GB SATA III 7200RPM

guys I've bought the mobo so please stick to my question.

in that case go with the 780 for resolutions 2560x1600 and below, and for anything higher go for a 4GB GTX 760/770 sli.

because at above 2560x1600 you'll definitely need more than 2GB.

I'd go for the GTX 760 sli over the gtx 770 sli personally, better value.

not sure why you'd buy X79 with a i7 3820,unless of course you plan to upgrade to a 3930K or other 6 (+?) core variant on the X79 platform.

hi mvitkun, thanks for the suggestion. Just to let you know I'll be doing 1920X1080 3d gaming.

And guys just for your information I've bought Asus Rampage IV Extreme motherboard. Good for tweaking and tuning.

Don't go lower than a 3930k for a 2011 platform.

Either get a 3930k and a 780 or sell your mobo and get better gaming optimized parts.

hi mvitkun, thanks for the suggestion. Just to let you know I'll be doing 1920X1080 3d gaming.

for 3D I might actually swing towards the 770/760 sli, because you need to the kick out the same/similar frames multiple times, and in some games the gtx 780 can only get around 40fps (crysis 3,metro 2033).

so for the sake of making the build last longer I'd go for the sli instead.

And guys just for your information I've bought Asus Rampage IV Extreme motherboard. Good for tweaking and tuning.

the MSI Mpower Max is also good for tweaking and tuning.....and for gaming a Haswell 4770K will be anywhere from 10-30% faster than Sandybridge-E 3820.

and the 4770K also has an unlocked multiplier, whereas the 3820 is locked to 43x.

This. You should really sell your mobo and get a z87 platform.

If you plan on gaming, buy either a 4770K if you plan to edit or a 4670K if you intend on solely gaming, X79 is terrible for gaming, when compared to Z77, as is oriented towards workstation computers, not those intended for gaming. It could be a while before the Haswell series of X79 processors are released, until that time I recommend buying a Z87 platform as it will still be a decent system in years to come with the addition of a GPU upgrade every 12 or 18 months.

I would go 3820 + 2x7970 but meh

Console optimisations and how they will effect you | The difference between AMD cores and Intel cores | Memory Bus size and how it effects your VRAM usage |
How much vram do you actually need? | APUs and the future of processing | Projects: SO - here

Intel i7 5820l @ with Corsair H110 | 32GB DDR4 RAM @ 1600Mhz | XFX Radeon R9 290 @ 1.2Ghz | Corsair 600Q | Corsair TX650 | Probably too much corsair but meh should have had a Corsair SSD and RAM | 1.3TB HDD Space | Sennheiser HD598 | Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro | Blue Snowball

I would get  3820 and gtx 780 because personally like single cards better since they cause less problems and this will allow you to add another 780 in the future.
