Hey guys,

So I was wondering if I could still use ram that wasn't listed in the ram capability lists in my motherboards user guide.

I want to use Kingston hyper-x beast 2400mhz 16gb (2x8gb) but its not listed in the manual, neither is G skills 2400 (2x8gb) ram.

The only 16gb kit I could find that is actually for sale here is A-data's kit but its way more expensive, otherwise its mostly 8gb kits.

Any help would be great!

Cheers

Be careful and go online and check the ram's QVL, I tried to get tactical tracer ram and my Hero motherboard wouldn't recognize it. In all fairness I may just have a bad board I started a rma yesterday and will be sending it back to ASUS on monday. Because it seems my mobo won't recognize any ram lol. But when I first contacted customer support they told me if it isn't listed in their manual and isn't on the rams QVL it won't work.

oh okay thanks, yeah I will have a look at the places selling the ram, is it better to have a 2x8gb kit or 4x4gb kit for a Hero? I still don't really understand it

2x8GB because you can upgrade to 32 GB in the future.

I like the color scheme of Noctua fans. Deal with it. Forget about the bad memories of the past.

oh okay, I just thought quad channel memory like 4x8gb and 4x4gb were different and made for quad channel motherboards rather than dual channel motherboards, that's where im getting confused

Also the codes are slightly different on the Kingston ram, KHX24C11T3K4 on the list but the 2x8gb 2400 kit is KHX24C11T3K2 which has different timings, I think its 11-13-13

Quad channel and dual channel mean nothing, well at least it's just marketing. Dual channel motherboards can still use quad channel ram if it has a max of 4 dimms.
