Try Downloading an app called battery doctor. It is able to help you optimize how much power is being used and tells you when your using too much power and what causes it.

Do you have GPS/Location turned on on your phone?  The Google Play store likes to ping your GPS multiple times a day without telling you, chewing up your battery life.  Doesn't get logged under the battery settings either.  Happened to me with my S5, as soon as I found this out and turned off the GPS/Location, my battery life went back to being amazing.

Heyyo,

Hmm, Nexus 5? Are you on 5.1.1 or 5.0.2 or 4.4.4? Kitkat is solid, 5.0.2 has some serious bugs and 5.1.1 seems pretty solid too. I'd recommend making sure you're on either kitkat or the latest lollipop.

That's good, at least we know it isn't a bugged version of Lollipop you're on.

Hmm, next would definitely be to trace your battery useage. If you're not constantly using your gps program? Be sure to remove it from your recent apps to ensure it's not constantly draining your battery in the background. Usually if GPS is going though it'll show in the notification bar so keep an eye out for that too.

What does your built in battery useage look like? Could you post some screenshots please?

What are some of the main apps you use?

Best bet would be to monitor battery usage using battery monitor. I think it might show you if the GPS is being pinged (not sure which app it was exactly, but I remember reading that someone used this app or something similar to diagnose the Google Play GPS issue). If it is the case, it's best to just toggle the Location services on and off when needed using the quick action buttons in the notifications bar.

Alternatively, you could be having a battery calibration issue, where the device is not detecting the battery percentage correctly and not fully charging, causing the displayed value to drop rapidly. Usually a device restart will allow you to determine if this is the issue, where the percentage will usually drop from somewhere in the 20s beforehand to somewhere in the low red zone like 4% after restart

If you just recently upgraded Android, you may have that problem. Try restarting. Had that same issue once I upgraded a GS5 and a Note 3 to 5.0. Restarting stopped the massive battery drain.

I don't do signatures.

@The_MarD @TW1ST3R @Mattrixx @kurakh7

the issue somehow fixed itself after running battery doctor, multiple (!) restarts and deleting unnecessary apps. dont know what caused it. thanks for the help though.
