I remember the ancient times when the Intel Pentium was the top of the line monstrosity thing that Intel made. Now, they turned the tables, and the Pentium is the 3rd lowest-class CPU, after the Intel Atom and the Intel Celeron. Intel should revive the Pentium's glory days and create a Pentium with 8 cores, a super fast clock speed, and 16 threads.

I think Intel wouldn't want to do that, it'd mess up their whole naming scheme.

Intel Pentium D Extreme Edition would be cool though.

Then what will happen to i3, i5 and i7? Also Xeon?

Heyyo,

Look at the history amigo... the Intel Pentium was great... until the Pentium 4 and Pentium D came along and sucked compared to AMD's Athlon 64 and FX series.

Intel realized how their CPUs sucked compared to the competition and went back to the drawing board and rebuilt their CPUs and released the Core series. Then magic happened.

Nowadays? Yeah Pentium is a legacy name... but it also is a scarred legacy where-as the Core series are reknown for great instructions per clock and really good performance.

Or just a quad core version of the G3258. It would replace the 4690k.

G3258 @ 4.5 | 8GB Team Vulcan RAM | 128GB Kingston V300 SSD (I didn't know what I was doing when I bought it) | MSI H81I Motherboard | Corsair H55 with Noctua NF-P12 | EVGA SSC GTX 960 4GB | OCZ 550W Fully Modular PSU with Noctua NF-A14 | Cooler Master Elite 130 (Soon to be something cool)
