When looking around for what was the best and can't seem to get a straight answer anywhere. One says Macafee is the best performing while others say it doesn't detect malware and lets viruses through. Does anyone know of reliable anti-virus and anti-malware software? Help would be fantastic.

Windows Defender paired with Malwarebytes is all you really need if you're careful.  It's what I use.

I've started using Avira (it's free) because it's arguably the best free anti-virus that you can find, and it even competes very well against paid options.

Here's a report from AV-Comparatives: http://www.av-comparatives.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/avc_sum_201412_en.pdf

For virus scanning I use Malwarebytes: https://www.malwarebytes.org/

All you have to do is not click on anything weird. If you think anti-viruses will defend you from any virus from unsafe websites, you're wrong.
