I'm a new home owner and I would like to turn my home to smart home. I have a budget of 5000-10000. I would like to hook up server, camers, nas, alarm, the whole house but I'm at a lost who this should go. I'm also trying to have the whole house wire for Internet both wired and wireless. If someone with experience tell like added new rj-45 lines and if I should stick with moca or not. Anyone can help me with this would be great.. Also I have never built a nas, or home server, or media center computer so I need help with that also.

I'd try to call a local tech company and tell them what they want and how much it would cost for instalation

This is an excellent question and I wish there were actually helpful responses. I am also in the market for equipment to network a new house with security cameras and networking. @Desbreko were you able to find more information? I'd love to hear about it if you did.

I've been looking at Oomi, or just mucking about with some IP cameras and sensors...but would love to hear about other solutions.

My idea is pretty big project like added re-45 wire throughout the entire home and have everything link in a cage in my future office. It's pretty big project to get it done but as far to get general direction no but I have a tech working on phase one drawing up plans for me right now. I will know more in a couple of days.

You have a few options:

  • Leviton/HAI
  • Creston
  • LinuxMCE or LinuxHA

Good luck, all of these options cost an arm and a leg (and then some). I'd suggest starting off with LinuxMCE and build off that.

If you want AV distribution though your house, Creston is the only real option.
