Best way to go about cleaning a keyboard?

FruitBasketSilex

This keyboard has been soaked in some sugary liquid (my bad) and its my responsibility to clean it for my girlfriend, it managed to get inside, but didn't short anything, so its good.

Should I just disassemble it and dishwasher it? Should I soak it in liquid gold? What do I do here?

I plan to unscrew that backplate and get in there to unstick the keys, but I have no experience in keyboard cleaning.

I'm not a person that usually gets sticky substances in my keyboard.( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

OK, seriously, just unscrew everything, check that there is no wet liquid on any PCBs, and just clean the caps with whatever.

OK, I have it open all the way. It appears to be a membrane keyboard.

What I'm looking at is basically a bunch of nodes, one for each key, and its basically a giant ribbon cable, so I'll set that aside, and wash out the chassis and caps, and it should fit together again, will water do fine if I dry it out fully?

Water will be fine as long as it's completely dry before supplying any power to it. I once washed a cpu with water and left it there in soak for hours, I left it overnight and made sure it was dry, and it worked perfectly.

Welcome. Remember to remember how the keyboard fits back together. Membranes can be confusing to take apart.

Its a super simple cheapo one I bought for my girlfriend, it has round keys, similar to a typewriter, she loved it.

The inside is super-simple.

If its still a bit sticky afterwards you can try soaking the whole thing in DESTILLED water and let it dry for a few weeks with the ricebag method. That will fix it for sure.

The deed is done, the only key that stuck was the useless END key, but I pulled it into the up position and left it there.

Its 5:30AM and I have a job interview in 4 1/2 hours, its time for bed.
