Why you should ALWAYS buy your cards at once if you plan to SLI/CF

I recently bought another MSI Gtx 970 for SLI and they have different PCB so the mismatch...

The upper one is the new one and has v1.3 PCB with extra support between the pcie bracket and the card it self so now it has no flex at all, the PCB on v1.3 is about 3mm wider and 1cm longer the v1.1 so the SLI bridge sits kind of cricked.

 

I will try to contact the dealer to send in my old v1.1 and replace it with a v1.3, or is it better to contact MSI directly?

i have already contacted MSI via their facebook page but no answer, the website says that in my i need to contact my dealer and as far as i know MSI has no support email address but i will try to email the dealer tomorrow

That sucks man. Too bad there wasn't a way to check before buying the second card. For future reference, I will stick with reference board cards if I have to buy them separately for sli.

One of my sli 780's has a backplate and the other does not, no biggie. But the question remains, how did you get an ROG bridge into your possession?

my local dealer had 21 units and i took one. you can find it on Ebay too but the are twice as expensive there as my local dealer even tough i live in Norway where PC parts is about 30% more expensive then in the US

I am not sure but I do not think CF will have this issue cause you can use two cards that are not identical.

they work fine, they just look different because the have different pcb layout (both MSI gtx 970 gaming 4G)

The sli bridge sits cricked (since the v1.3 board is 2mm wider then the v1.1)

If you hate how it looks so much then you can try to fix it but I do not think its worth it if it cost alot.
