Which processor should I get? (Mid gaming PC)

I currently have an Intel Core i3-2120 with a GALAXY GeForce GTX 750 Ti. I think my CPU is a bottleneck because many games will run better with a quad core CPU (please correct me if im wrong). So I am planning to upgrade my CPU and im on a budget. I am torn between 2 options which are:

 

AMD FX-8350 ($197)

+

GIGABYTE GA-970A-DS3P ($89)

 

 

or is it worth to save and spend more on

 

 

Intel Core i5-4690k ($240)

+

MSI Z97 PC MATE ($112)

 

 

or is there a better bang for the buck CPU+mobo combo? Get a newer FX procie?

 

Im looking at this major upgrade to be able to play the latest games for a couple of years, after this I am planning to upgrading my GPU next. For any CPU I get, Im planning to get a Cooler Master Hyper 212X for cooling.

In the short term, you'll benefit more from a better GPU if you're not playing MMOs. If you are playing MMOs, or want better performance in the long run, get the i5 and upgrade your GPU if you feel that it's necessary later on.

If you don't want to spend that much on a cpu just go for a 4460.

You could get an i5 4690 and H81 for much cheaper than the FX and it will perform better

You will always have an edge with a K cpu if you do overclock.

But the 4460 is pretty much fine for anything in the near future.

Yeah, a 4460 performs almost the same as a 4690 in games.
