honestly bro, Most headsets have the same build quality. Don't look for 7.1 surround as razer suroud easily fixes that.  My corsair vengeance 1300 seems to be holding up really well. That is the analog, wired version of the corsair vengeance 2000. I think you should get the vengeance 2000

I've got the Vengeance 2000's switched over from the Razer Tiamat 7.1's. The Corsairs have been great so far with good audio quaility and reliability. The only thing I would recommend if you do go with them is to replace the microfiber earcups with the leatherett replacements.

Because people only review when something goes wrong with it. Think about it. Also, they expect these things to take a beating. As in run over by a truck and then survive.

I've had them about a month, use them daily and haven't noticed any issues. That being said at least Corsair has a very good RMA process :P. Just don't over stress the hinges and don't toss them around and I'm going to assume they'll be fine. I've dropped mine off my head from standing height while picking up my kid, they landed on tile floor and didn't break so thats a win for me.

I've also read that alot of the hinge breaking issues come from people with large heads lol. so take that for what it might be.

I wish I had thought about it like that before I went into a panic after reading all the reviews on newegg and canceling my order for the vengeance 2000's

I wear a 2XL helmet when I ride my dirt bike so... I think I have a large head D:

I think I like the idea of getting the vengeance 200 headset a little more after talking to real people but I think I will wait till Sunday to order them so I can get more fb on this topic.

If your headset broke right now would you get the same headset again or something else?

If you had to pick an alternative to the Vengeance 2000's what would you pick?

I had the Logitech G35's for almost 2 years and not a single issue, Had the Tiamats for about 8 months and hated the sound but loved the quality and feel of the headseat, probably the most comfortable i've worn. The Corsairs are better audio than the previous two but the microfiber ear cups suck compared to the Tiamats, hoping my replacement leatherett ones will feel better and reviews i've seen say it makes the difference.

People like Steelseries headsets, and then there are the more premium brands to consider.

My 1300s have held up really well so i can only assume the 2000s will hold up even better because of its metal construction.

Just throwing it in there for you to consider. I have the Sony ps3 headset, http://www.gamestop.com/ps3/accessories/pulse-wireless-stereo-headset/91191

Shitty game stop link i know, but its the first one I found. You can get them at most of the local stores. They plug in with usb for wireless. I've had them for about a year and I really like them. Sound quality is just as good as my friends turtle beach headset and these were only $100 a year ago when I got them. Still in perfect condition despite a few falls.

Get headphones and a dedicated mic, you can get far better quality headphones for the same price or less as a mediocre headset.

some of my thoughts on the corsair v2k which I use almost daily. note I baby my V2k and put them on my head by stretching the headband and not the earcups putting even more stress on the weak point. seeing linus' videos where he casually flips and flops them around turn my stomach in knots even doing this I have broken 5 of these. however the 2 girls in my guild I recommended these to have had them going on 7 months now with not 1 issue.

I haz big ass head. and wear them at max extension

sound is similar to a veiled but punchier dt770

if build quality is truly paramount get a studio grade headphone like the akg 240, ath-M50 or the beyerdynamics

if you feel ballsy buy the dt770 for $95 that I posted in the audio forum titled ebay deal of the day. the 250 ohm will need an amp though

As far as durable goes I've been using my Qpad QH-1339 every day for over 4 years now and they're as good as new still. They are horribly expensive, not 7.1, but they are indeed durable. Also fantastic sound quality and excellent mic.

Prior to these I bought various cheaper headsets that pretty much always had some problem or flat out broke within a year or so.

those are beyerdynamic "rebranded"(in quotes because I can still read beyer on the plastic yolk clip thing.)

just a dt770 with a mic and usb sound card. Would be way cheaper if you bought it all separatly.

I know, but most people don't want to have separate headphones and mic.

How come on Newegg almost every review is bad and say they break easy? How long have you had yours?

I had the corsair vengeance 2000 and they broke on me in just over 3 months. They use micro USB which is really horrible because once the cable begins to wiggle the USB will short out and that's what happened to my pair. I can no longer charge them because they always short out. Also the rotating ear cup hinge is made of plastic and if you have a big head like me they are prone to breaking. I had to use wooden sticks with glue and zip ties to keep the top and bottom part together.

My current pair are the Razer chimaera 5.1 which just broke on me today, I'm currently in the middle of troubleshooting them, I'm having issues of turning them on even with a full charge of batteries and using rechargeable and non-rechargeables.

If you look at how many are sold you will see why, it's the same reason razer keyboards get so many bad reviews, if they sell 65% of the market of what the product is you will see A LOT of bad reviews.

  • 4 months later...

i too have this very headset, i made a reply to a top 5 headsets about it too.

i’ve bought and had the Corsair Vengence 2000 for a while now, and this puppy is beautiful, sound is amazing, there is just one thing that pulls me, quite litterally yanks me from recommending it to anyone else, cheap plastic, sure they look like metal, like brushed aluminum, however that couldn’t be further from the truth, the plastic “popped” and hit my temple hard enough to throw me off balance, i looked around cuz i thought my friend threw something at me, but it was the headset spring tension that slammed that broken shard into my head. For about a week it held together with a Zip-Tie and some tape, but then that cheap plastic cracked even more, and now, a chunk has fallen off and its back to its useless lopsidedness. I will never buy a headset from Corsair again, so far the only good thing they make in my opinion is their PSU’s, of which i own several, and the AX1200i.

just to be clear, the nub itself that goes into the socket to hinge is what broke the plastic socket on the inside of the arm above the ear cup.  i do suggest if you do get this, to do some kind of reinforcement surgery or what not, like give them a fine coating of fiber glass all the way around like a half inch over the hinge, so if it does break, that it don't have anywhere to go!  like, Gorilla Glue isn't enough, you gotta go all out!  you gotta go Star Trek on it and raise the shields!!!

I'm sure if Razor made an effort in supporting 64 bit OS's from the start there wouldn't be such a big fuss, but for every pro there is a con, Razor still has not made all their recent products fully x64 compliant, and they probably never will.

PC360's are on offer right now for 166 USD on Amazon, only headset I would get. http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-360-Headset-Pro-Gaming/dp/B003DA4D2U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1387473956&sr=8-1&keywords=sennheiser+pc360

Great sound, very clear, very focused on mids and highs. Bass is nice and tight, but not as bassy as my Audio-Technica M50's. The mic is good also.

But me personally, I would get good headphones and a standalone mic. suggestions include: HD558 (basically the same sound as the PC360's), DT990, DT770, AD700X, or if you find some on sale, the Pioneer SA1000, ShearMe loves those, and can explain how good they are. then just get like some 5$ clip mic, like the Zalman Clip on mic. or you could get a Blue Snowflake. or Snowball. or Yeti (pricy though).

and for the surround.. most games have options to set the audio to "heaphone". do that, turn off any software surround. profit. and if you absolutely want some software 7.1, get Razer Surround. and most "gaming headsets" are poorly built anyway, the best one I've encountered is the PC360's. and please, don't get the PC 363D, or the G4ME ZER0 or whatever, they're basically the same as the PC360 and the PC350, just.. fancy and overpriced. I have now lost my train of thought, and will just click  the post button.

i would NEVER... EVER... recommend anyone get that junk.  I've had a Snowball, AND a Bluebird, the worst absolute garbage i have ever had the displeasure of using.  Those mic's have NO noise cancelation, they pick up the couple down the street making love to their crock pot.  and that is IF the thing works.  i had gone through 3 Snoballs after i went through 3 Bluebirds, RMA after RMA after RMA all each with their own flaw, i had better sound quality (and zero headache) from my iPod Touch built in mic, heck even my Samsung HM1100 had better audio quality and reliability.

But as far as headsets and audio quality goes, i've used some high end equipment, xFI, Audigy 2, mAudio, etc, and to be honest, the sound quality of the Corsair Vengeance 2000 is incredible, crisp clear on all levels, the mic is perfect too, i have not heard any better audio with those, and my roommates Yamaha DTS receiver can shake the house, but its old, and these CV2K's are even blasting clearer than the Supreme FX III on my Crosshair V Formula-Z... even at 192khz.
