I am having a I5 4690k with z97 board. It is overclocked to 4.5 ghz at 1.23v.

The idle temp is rather high about 40 to 45 celcius constant.

But when 100% loaded it max until about 81 which is very rare it just hit for 1 sec. Average will be around 73 to 76 like that.

Why my idle temperature is rather high?

And btw, anyone tried adaptive mode on asus motherboard? Mine tend to crash and fail to boot.

That sounds pretty normal for idle temps. It depends on your CPU cooler, case and case airflow.

I rock adaptive volts with an offset of 0.005v, but haven't had any issues.

So you're not using adaptive mode?

This would force your CPU to run at full speed and 1.23V all the time, leading to your not much higher idle temps than normal.

If adaptive mode crashes, your OC is probably unstable. But do these crashes occur when stress testing or during normal use?

It it's only crashing during stress testing, then just bump up the voltage to 1.24V and set it to adaptive. If you ever experience instability, then bump it up to 1.25V.

EDIT: Btw, peaking at 80 is okay for stress tests.

rili? i am not very familiar with intel yet i used to have fx 6300 and the temp are lower.

The FX CPU's generally run at lower temps because the IHS is soldered(more expensive, but better) where intel uses thermal paste(cheaper, but additional performance isn't really needed, devil's canyon uses improved paste though.)

omg i always forget to follow haha lucky i always check. I tried adaptive mode last time and booting is alrd a problem.

few minutes ago i find out you should set offset to 0.05 or something like that i did and now running adaptive mode. The temp is still the same.

Don't know about underload cause i heard about never stress test while using adaptive mode.

As stated above, it depends on your ambient temperature, airfloow and cpu cooler. Running a i5-4690K and a CM 412S with push-pull Corsair SP120S. Just for reference:

Actual temps are idle temps with 25ºC, max are while running 100% CPU usage.

What are your room temps, if they are 30°c then it's normal, if it's -5°c then maybe less .

is about 25 to 30. i hope i stay at -5 tho.

This explains the high idle temps. Idle is usually 5-10 degrees above ambient.

Right now sitting at 19 ambient, i am sitting around 30 with music playing and doing some school work. (10% CPU usage)

okay i rewatch linus video finally did it, turn offset up and everything is working now. Ran cinebench and everything is stable is fine. This overclocked ran for 19 hours alrd so i assume it is rock solid. Not doing it 24 hours is because im going out and rain is coming lighting shock hittting my pc is the last thing i want haha.

Btw thank so much almost forgot about adaptive mode after last attemps fail, you might just save my cpu for another year or so life span!
