Upgrade Advice

Go to solution Solved by ApolloX75,

Hi, I currently am running an AMD Phenom II 955 which I bought originally when I built my custom computer some 6 years ago.

However, I've noticed game requirements creeping ever closer to my CPU and I'm thinking it's time to upgrade.

So, I ask for some advice. I've been looking at this combination:

Intel Core i5-4690K

http://ark.intel.com/products/80811/Intel-Core-i5-4690K-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_90-GHz

with an ASUS Z97-A Mobo

http://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/Z97A/

Do you think this is a good combination?

Also, do you think I should save up a bit more cash and go for something better like the 4790k, or perhaps wait another generation?

Thanks!  :)

That is an excellent combination. Go for it. For gaming you can't beat the 4690K, and with overclocking the longevity is excellent.

Awsome combo! The i5 will do just fine. What GPU do you have?

Primary: Lenovo T61 / Intel Core2Duo T7200 @ 2.2GHz / 3GB DDR2 / NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M / Fedora 22 <<<< THE WHITE KNIGHT

Secondary: Compaq Presario CQ56 / AMD V130 @ 2.3GHz / 2GB DDR3 / AMD Radeon HD 4250 / Windows 8.1 <<< THE FORGOTTEN HERO

I've used two Asus Z97-A 's in some friends builds and they're good motherboards. Although if you don't like the gold color scheme, the MSI Z97 Gaming 5 is another excellent choice.
