CPU Cooler mounting direction?

What is more effective: mounting the cpu-cooler blowing out on the rear or on the top? (CPU Cooler: Dark Rock Advanced, case: Silent Base 800)

I would say rear as the chances are there is already a fan there to assist. If you set the cooler up in a push config, the fan in the rear might be able to assist in pull.

afaik the heat pipes need to be running so that one end of the pipe is higher than the other end. Most of the time this means that the air will be blowing towards the rear of the case.

I would definitly let it push the air out of the rear, cause otherwise it'll suck in the warm air from the GPU much easier.

Depend on case and mobo (if there is empty slot between cooler and GPU or not). I had in previous setup 1 rear and 1 top exhaust So pretty much equal, though top was 140mm. In that situation I found that it doesn't matter for cooling performance which orientation you use. So if you have only rear exhaust, use default orientation. With top exhausts you can use horizontal as well.
