Been looking for some DDR2 RAM.  Need 4 gigs at 800 speed to go with my current RAM or 8 gigs to max what the specs of RAM amount on my motherboard says.  Then I find out that the ADATA DDR3 can be had in 8 gigs for 60 bucks when 8 gigs of DDR2 seem to be running over 100 bucks.  Oh how I wish I could run DDR3 in my old DDR2 motherboard, would be so much cheaper, but alastis not to be.

This is my signiture, fear it!

Why not ... I don't know .... Save up and build a new computer ?

... Life is a game and the checkpoints are your birthday , you will face challenges where you may not get rewarded afterwords but those are the challenges that help you improve yourself . Always live for tomorrow because you may never know when your game will be over ... I'm totally not going insane in anyway , shape or form ... I just have broken English and an open mind ...

If you were local, then I would have sold you my DDR2 that I have laying around for cheap.

Random fact, my Socket 775 motherboard supports both DDR2 and DDR3.

Really?  I'm using a LGA 775 as well.  An ASUS P5E.  it says it only supports DDR2 on the ASUS website though.

Legacy technology is expensive these days.

If I were you, I would save to build a new PC, or get a 775 motherboard that supports DDR3.

The stars died for you to be here today.

A locked bathroom in the right place can make all the difference in the world.

Isn't ebay iffy on the quality of it's products and whether it works or not?

Ebay isn't a webstore so you can't really paint it with that broad a brush. I'm sure there's sellers on there that are shady, but there's webstores that sell on there too. Look up the sellers rep and shop carefully. Using paypal, you can file grievances and usually get your money back if you get hornswaggled.

Any decent seller on Ebay with a strong rating has non-DOA guarantees with every item they sell. I've bought 11 or 12 used GPU's off Ebay by now and I've only had one less than fortunate transaction, and it was remedied quickly.

RAM is pretty easy to diagnose the day you get it, pop it in, run MemTest86+ overnight, boot in the morning. Job done.

memtest.com, the original has a free download.  Is there any advantage to getting memtest86+ over memtest86?

For DDR2/DDR3 no, there should be no difference. Some people have sited various isolated bugs with 86+ but I've never had a problem with it in ~7 years.
