its the usb cable that came with my d7200..but its not like any usb cable i seen, please tell me its not some proprietary bullshit...

It seems to be a semi-proprietary connector for Coolpix point and shoot and D-series DSLRs. Could be wrong though.

thats not what I wanted to hear :( I get the want to avoid using micro USB on such a high end product with its fragile nature. but whats wrong with mini like my d40 had?

That is a mini USB connector, size is between micro and normal, it gets used on all DSLR and point-and-shoot cameras so far i know.

Not really propietary since you can get those cables in nearly any store so far i know.

Definitely not mini usb. Mini usb is shaped much differently
