500W psu for GTX 960?

WizKimi
Go to solution Solved by nunya bus,

dude I have a Antec 650W EDGE gold on a titanX
if its a no name brand 500W is probably the peak. I would say its a 450W continuous
what you need to realize a PSU is its most efficent between 50% and 80% usage most of the time. unless its platinum or gold or titanium. then it gets better. so. you will be fine sir!

I have a 80 plus rating but relatively unknown power supply which i bought for 45$ and has been very steady on my old HD 7770 with no problems of overheating ( I was recommended this power supply over corsair cx 450 by the shopkeeper, both were priced similar)

Voltage - current ratings

+5v -> 20

+12v rail -> 28

+3.3v -> 20

[ unit of current is not specified on my power supply, im fairly new to this so im guessing ampere, correct me if wrong ]

-12v -> 0.3 A

Should this be enough for GTX 960 2gb ASUS strix version? Thanks for reading

As long as it's a good power supply 500w will be enough

*snip*

Should power it easily.

Next time, get a well known brand of PSU. The shop-keeper was either misinformed (thinking 500w is definitely better than 450w) or that product wasn't selling well so he (or she) wanted to get rid of it.

If I've said something wrong, please correct me

+12v rail -> 28

If it's just 28A on 12V, this should NOT be considered a 500W power supply. At best I would rate it at 350W.

That's plenty even for a heavy over clock.
