UPDATE !

So I got a great start of my weekend!

5 Days ago I installed a custom water cooling loop with CPU and GPU, all parts are from EKWB, and worked beautifully all 5 days , Great Temps.

Nothing was overclocked !

last night I left my PC on to do some steam downloads.

When I woke up my PC was off .

Started it and I got a big spark coming from the GPU.

immediately pull out the power and start draining.

And lo and behold , some diode was vaporized.

So I am a bit scared...

Did I do something wrong? or was it pure an unlucky GPU fault?

Damn I hope they just give me a new one.

and now I also need a new gpu block because they only got the STRIX cards now...

Did you overclock the card? EDIT: I should really learn to read.

Quite odd how a diode exploded (probably due to heat) when the card was (presumably) idle all the time.

That time I saved Linus' WiFi pass from appearing on YouTube:

the first hours of the build I Stressed the card with Folding @ home for 4 hours, also it isnt a diode wich needs to be covered by the stock or waterblock

Did your pump cut off when you put the pc to sleep ?

Did water fall on it ?

pump was connected to 4 Pin Molex , so the pc should be off then.

also I always have coretemp running with an automated shut down when the CPU is arround 68c.

Its in the same loop so it should heat up equally when pump fails , also GPU block has a lot more mass

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is that not near one of the screw holes for the back plate?

Is it possible its thanks to a screw making a short?

yes , but its a ground plane on that side .

Hi, I know your case is closed but I am interested in this issue.

1. You didn't mention all the airflow set-up in your case.
2. If there's no leak, it has nothing to do with conductive material shorting out your card.
3. Even if you were dumping all the hot air back into case, as long as you have at least a 120mm fan exhausting it out. It would be just fine.

4. Downloading a game doesn't stress gpu at all, by my experience, letting gpu like a 970 running at idle with abt 400mL coolant(distilled water), barely increase temp (less than 2C) over 5 hours even the fan were totally off.

1. standard 650D layout

2 .im guessing bad luck or that screw

3. I did

4. it does heat up , depends if your radiators can benefit from convection

Update :

So I got my 980Ti yesterday , its indeed WAAAY faster than my 980.

I chose the MSI 980 Reference and I am planning to watercool this biatch again .

I will run it 2-3 weeks on air to mage sure its fine .

I already voided my warranty on day 1 :D

I managed to remove the warranty sticker on the screws so if I get a non watercooling related issue with the GPU again ,  I will try to get my warranty.

So I now need to order :

900D

1x480 rad

1x380 rad

Tubing

TITAN X block and backplate

Bitspower fittings :D
