Battery life comparison?

Does anyone know which OSes get better battery life than others? I'm thinking like XP vs 7 vs 8.1 vs 10. I run 7 on my laptops and I'm wondering if one gets better life.

I think that 10 would be the best optimized, but you should really look at power settings etcetera.

 

What about some light distro of Linux? One that you could load entirely into RAM, meaning that you could largely spin down the HDD if you were using one. However, this probably wouldn't be great for whatever you're wanting to do, so I wouldn't particularly suggest it.

I beg to differ ,with 10 I wasnt getting more than 3 hours on battery while i am getting around 4.5 hours on battery with 8.1 (its with a lenovo g510 ,4200M and egpu disabled)

yup I've been testing it with popcorn time watching movies at same resolution

I tried 10 months ago on my old laptop. (Latitude E6500. Something like a 2.5 Core 2 and 2 or 3GB RAM.) Slow as hell for some reason.

 

I also tried the Win 8 preview on that same laptop years ago. It was okay, but I ended up going back to 7. Completely forget battery life. I used to run XP exclusively and then for awhile I ran dualboot 7 and XP. (I now have a Precision M4400 which runs just 7 along with my ultrabook, Latitude E4300. Both have SSDs.)

I'm running Chromium, battery life is phenomenal.
