Hello All,

Just wanted to say HI.

I joined after watching one of the "As Fast As Possible" Videos. Looks like you all have a lot of fun here. Tell you a little about myself. I know a bit about tech; use to work for a help desk back in college. Have been out of the game for a while (like 7 years). Haven't played any games in YEARS lol.. My current system is kind of embarrassing.  It’s an AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+ dual core 2.2GHz with 4gigs of dual channel DDR2 on an ASUSTeK M2A-VM HDMI with an integrated ATI Radeon X1200 Series RS690. Yeah I know it’s about 7 years old. I hope to save up to build a new system here soon. This is what I have so far on my list.

Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor

MSI Z97-GAMING 5 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory

Crucial MX200 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

EVGA GeForce GTX 960 4GB SuperSC ACX 2.0+ Video Card

EVGA SuperNOVA GS 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

Fractal Design Define R5 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case

Any Advice would be welcome.  Okay, I'm done with my ramble. :-D

Overall a pretty good build, I'd tone down to 8GB and maybe get a R9 280X or maybe 300 series that is equivalent to a 280X for better performance. I really find the 4GB 960 to be kinda useless but hey, you're open to put anything in it! As long as it's your creation

You could maybe save some money by switching from a Z** chipset to an H** chipset. The Z** chipset is meant for overclocking and since your cpu is locked, that doesn't make a whole load of sense.

That time I saved Linus' WiFi pass from appearing on YouTube:

Welcome to the forum! - You are getting a locked i5 4460, so you do not need a z97 board - save your money on the motherboard (and maybe a cheaper case or 8gb of ram) and get a 970 or something!!

thanks guys. I wouldn't mind dabbling in some over clocking, what would be a good CPU? My thought was of I get that board I could upgrade in the future. Is Intel still releasing new chips for the LGA 1150 socket?

If you want to overclock get a K series processor (4690k 4790k) though honestly for your budget, it makes no sense to waste money overclocking when you could get a better GPU - overclocking rarely increases gaming performance

I dont think any new chips will come out until the new processors (which again are probably not worth the upgrade)

Thanks for that. What is your reason for picking the Asus board over the MSI I have picked?

Your welcome the reason is price, motherboards don't do that much when comparing ones with the same chipsets that one is 91$ after rebates right now and has the features I look for when looking at motherboards.

This may sound kind of dumb but I was liking the MSI board for the looks as well as what it can do. I have been thinking of the Define R5 - Windowed case to show off my build as well so the maybe in the future water cooling I might play with. b.t.w you mentioned "budget". I don’t really have a limit but if I increase the cost of parts that means the longer I have to wait to buy it and use it.

Oh when I make part lists they are usually meant to be followed only if you bought everything within like 3 days before prices change.
