Getting ready for Witcher 3, but under 650 dollars...

Hi!

I'm really looking forward to witcher 3, but there is no way in hell that my rig (that used to be respectable) could run this game.

So I wanna start fresh. From the absolute start!

Is there any way I could build a pc that can run this game at preferrably pretty high settings and at a playable framerate for under 650 dollars?

I couldn't think of a way, but I know that the forums combined wisdom is way better than my own.

Also what do you consider as playable frame rates, everyone is different?

Could you list the specs of your old rig so we could see what you could salvage from it?

Yeah I really wish I could, but it's an old "gaming" laptop that was respectable for a laptop, but still... It's a laptop. So no salvaging of a PSU, harddrive or anything like that. Sadly

Yeah this, $650 is gonna be tough for a 100% new build.

edit: ok with a laptop and having to go fully new. Try and get a used case for as cheap as possible.

Probably like over 30 fps

NVIDIA claims that you need GTX 960 in order to run Witcher 3 on high settings but they are not saying at what FPS. Anyway, you should get minimum of 30FPS at HIGH and expect at least 60FPS on LOW or MEDIUM.

This is prety much as good as it gets in $650 range.

Again somewhat similar although with an AMD cpu. Also note the Intel build above does not include a cpu cooler.
If you can't spare the extra $50 I'd go with this as the cpu is not as crucial for most games at the moment otherwise the built above would be suitable with the addition of a Hyper 212 Evo for cooling!

Yeah a CPU cooler is well cool. Bigger headroom for overclocking! Looks nice to!

Yeah I thought that going amd would be great to get "bang for the buck", but the 960 just seems so damn good for the price. The 290 is compelling though

In the 960 is good for the price then the 290 is a free Lamborghini!

The 960 is actually a rather poor deal when you have 280s selling for 150 bucks!
