If you were to compare Project Cars, Gran Turismo 5 and Assetto Corsa, which one is the most realistic driving simulator? For the sake of this question, I'm not so concerned with the racing side of things, simply the physics. Are they equal in that respect? The only one that I have any experience with is GT 5. From what I've read it's very realistic, but a lot of people in the sim community say otherwise. GT5 is an abysmal racing sim, but it seems like it's a very good driving simulator. Anyway, what do you guys think??? Thanks!!!

I've tried all of them and I'd have to say Assetto Corsa. It doesn't look as nice obviously, but the physics seem the most realistic to actual driving, if I were to actually drive any of the cars in there. GT5 allows me to drive cars that I've driven in real life, so it's obviously easier to compare.

pcars - pretty good physics but not the best. it's still pretty enjoyable but i wouldn't call it hugely realistic

gt5 - i agree that gt5 is more of a driving sim than a racing sim. you can have proper races but gt5 isn't a full-on sim

ac - very good racing sim. pretty close to iracing and rfactor 2

another game to look out for is Dirt Rally, which is in early access in steam right now but it's looking to be a very promising rally sim. if codemasters plays it right it might beat out richard burns rally, which is the best rally sim out there but it's more than a decade old now.

What exactly makes GT5 inferior to the other two? How do you tell?

gt5 doesn't really simulate every car well (imagine simulating around 1000 cars to match their real-life counterpart... crazy). Some cars feel better than others (premium v. standard cars). plus the sounds really suck (the infamous vacuum cleaner sounds), and it has fictional cars too. it's still debated if gt5/6 really is a simulator but I say it still kinda is. but it isn't hardcore. assetto corsa and pcars do the job much better

GT5 is more of a driving/car simulator then a racing simulator, more of an approximate comparison as to how a certain car stacks up against another within the library of 1000+, whereas the other two are more concentrated on making each car feel as realistic as possible. Of course this means less cars (I was honestly disappointed in the number of cars available in PC) but each car has more work put in to it to make it seem as realistic as it can. Especially when you drive with a good FF wheel and you can actually feel the car behave like it does in real life (tires breaking traction, etc), and do precision countermeasures, that's where the realism is. I just didn't feel that in GT5. Using the same wheel as I did in PC/AS, the cars just either understeered like to tomorrow or spun out, the medium just isn't there like it would be irl.
