4 Pin vs 8 Pin CPU Connector

Go to solution Solved by airdeano,

well since your mobo is 4-pin only, you kinda don't have a choice.

a 4+4-pin is a redundant amount of amps (for overclocking and stability) which

you won't need.

your 8-pin prolly splits in half (4+4-pin)

As the title says, I'm just wondering if there are any disadvantages of having a 4pin CPU connector as opposed to an 8 pin?

I just bought a Xeon 1231v3 and the motherboard I had purchased was an Asus H87i-plus mini ITX motherboard and just noticed it had a 4 pin cpu connector... will it effect performance or anything at all?

I've never really understood what the difference is.. because I've had PSU's that only have 4 pin connectors and it goes in to the 8 pin and everything seemed to work fine.

The extra pins are for more oc'ing power.
