  • Some Intel B85 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Haswell Refresh CPUs.

It is compatible from a hardware perspective. However, some motherboards do not have the updated BIOS required to recognize the Haswell Refresh CPUs(Devil Canyon).

Get a Z97 if you wanna overclock or I think it's z87 if you don't wanna over clock.

Z87 boards can overclock. Z97 was released at the same time as Devil Canyon. The H and B chipsets are more limited in overclocking. Some I think can overclock, but most definitely cannot.

You have a CPU that cant be overclocked so you dont need to spend extra money for a "Z" motherboard. The one you have picked out will PROBABLY work but there's a possibility it wont. If it was made at a date after the CPU, which is highly likely because they've been out for a while, it will work JUST AS GOOD as any other. If it has been sitting in a warehouse, boxed up and just waiting since before the CPU came out, it wont work with that CPU until you put an older CPU in there. I suggest just getting that one and returning it if needed or buying the cheapest H97 motherboard you can find.

G3258 @ 4.5 | 8GB Team Vulcan RAM | 128GB Kingston V300 SSD (I didn't know what I was doing when I bought it) | MSI H81I Motherboard | Corsair H55 with Noctua NF-P12 | EVGA SSC GTX 960 4GB | OCZ 550W Fully Modular PSU with Noctua NF-A14 | Cooler Master Elite 130 (Soon to be something cool)
