Is there any REAL programmable keys, or anything which sounds like the following:

When you press a button on your keyboard it outputs a digit like "a" or "z" or "5" and you have some that don't "output" but passively apply themselves (this isn't technically what happens but just to keep it simple) as a modifier, for example pressing or holding "shift", "tab" or "ctrl".

Having said this, is there any that output as a string instead of a digit, but dont really output it? (to say, a text field)

so when its pressed it outputs "g1", or "p6" or "MM", so I can put it as a shortcut key? say to like mute/unmute on teamspeak or start stop recording on dxtory or fraps. but the reason I'd need this instead of a normal programmable key (like the ones I have on my keyboard) because these macro keys I have to make it faux-press keys like ctrl+a num-pad key, but the problem is, what if I wanna use those keys, for example in a game (I know very few games use these but the ones I play do), so you can see the dilema.

anyway just a yes or no and maybe an explanation would be nice, I know there are more technical stuff as well, for example the fact that a key that outputs "g1" isn't on the ASCII table in my OS, but there must be ways around this. idk, info pls :)

Not really because you need an ascii character to bind to a program function

with that said you could make a function key (like the G keys on the K95) trigger an unused character like ¿ or something else you dont use, then have that trigger your program function or game hotkey or whatever you need

also with the corsair software you can have a G key press any sequence of characters, so just by pressing G1 you could have it type "usernameblablabla" instantly

I'm fairly sure hes asking how to change the software side of things, not the keycaps themselves

Yeah I had a look at those but it just seems to do what a macro does.

it inputs what ever string of keys you want it to as in full pages if you want

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

Thanks man that's really helpful. I'll try and find software that does this, maybe the CMstorm software could do this as well, who know :)

thanks a lot.
