If it runs hotter in a game than on Prime95, I would assume your video card is raising your case temps and that you have poor case ventilation. Easiest fix would be to flip the fan on the radiator so that it is intake instead of exhaust, but that might have a negative effect on your gpu temps.

I am using a FX 8320 cooled by a Corsair H55. At idle it is between 20C- 25C. When i run Prime95, OCCT or any game, I end up hitting 55C after some time. Whit GTA V it is a totally different story, it hits 77C after just 15 min and the CPU ends up thermal throttling. Is this normal?

A bunch of my steam friends CPUs get hot playing gta v, but not usually that high. They normally go up 5c higher than their average gaming temps

AMD CPUs can't take as much heat as Intel CPUs. TJ Max is substantially lower.

you are degredating that CPU really bad.

I know, I plan on getting a new cooler next week or getting an H55 as well, but clearly it's not powerful enough for it ;_; *Starts to go to Amazon to buy Intel*

you can't hit 90c on an amd cpu, the software you are using is wrong. 

 

Nope, i use the base clock 3.5 GHz

try remounting the cooler. set the voltage manually to 1.4v. it shouldn't get that hot if it mounted properly.
