I plan on building a computer soon and I want to get a SDD but that would be out of my budget unless I get a weaker GPU.  I need to choose from getting a GTX 970 without a SDD or get a GTX 960 with a SDD.  How much worst is the 960 vs the 970, and do I really need a SSD?  I am going to be playing on a single monitor at 1080p, playing games like League of legends, Csgo, Dying Light, GTA 5.  Please help :C.

Get the 970 and then get the ssd later.

I'd recommend the gigabyte g1 gaming, imo its the absolute best of all the 970s.

No not really, Galax ones are better, Strix is arguably better, HoF is better...

G1 gaming runs the coolest under load, while also running the quietest when under load, and you can also have it run silent at idle by following this tutorial: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/275897-tutorial-how-to-make-your-900-series-video-card-have-a-0-fan-mode/

Not to mention that it's binned, so more commonly it will overclock pretty high.

I'll admit, yes the HoF is better, but it's also what.. like $80 more?

Guys, remember, we are here to answer the question at hand, not argue about which 970 is the best.

Anyways, I recommend what every single other person that has commented on this thread has said: go for the 970, and either buy an SSD later, or get a cheap one now.

I will combat your silly anecdotal evidence with anecdotal evidence.

Also did you notice how crummy gigabyte is with their rev versions? They cheap out on VRM components to achieve lower cost.

Thats how the whole coil whine issue got started.

Have fun with your "silent card", might aswell scratch your eardrums out after 3 hour gaming session hearing that squeak.

My g1 gaming has very very little coil whine, it's only noticeable in situations where the card is being very very heavily stressed.

And from what I've heard, the strix is much worse with coil whine.

Ok so getting the 970 but which one?  I been thinking about the Asus one or the MSI.

I would go for the MSI 970 personally, unless you are looking to draw less voltage, then I'd go for the Asus. The MSI might give you a few extra frames but that's really it. They're pretty identical with each other when it comes to everything else.
