Hello all,

 

I recently got a new headset, the HyperX Cloud.

They're really comfortable and all, but I don't find the sound to be too good.

In CS:GO for example, it sounds way better when playing thru my 6 year old Logitech speakers.

Are there some settings I'm missing here? I thought the HyperX Cloud's were really good headsets.

Any advice?

I find them quite good. Speakers will be better pretty much no matter what. They are speakers which offer REAL surround sound not that fake 7.1 stuff :P

The thing is you won't find many gaming headsets that have especially good sound...most of the time you pay for an average sounding headphone with a microphone and "gaming-looks". And they also tend to have marketing "gimmicks" associated such as 7.1 surround and so on. 

However, the HyperX Cloud are actually quite well received...they have pretty good sound for being a gaming headset at that price point. I'm not sure what you don't like about the sound in particular though....

Quite difficult to give advice tbh :P Chances are you might have to go up in price point if you're unhappy with them or get a decent headphone and separate mic...

NO nO nooo ,

 

Just like logan from Teksyndicate said about the cloud : '' The HyperX cloud sucks When you dont have a driver, the bass gets loose but when you drive it , the bass gets tight and sounds better

Remember , The cloud needs 60 Ohms in order for it to work to its full potential .

 

 

Just watch the vid till the end and you will get what i mean.

P.s , the sound does not suck , you or any other person dont know how to use it properly , i use the could with my Asus amp and they sound great .

and look at the 5:30 part where he speaks of sound.

@Ridska so your saying you need a external amp/dac? to drive them? I would call bs on that if that's what your saying here.

I would verify that you have all software/driver effects and DSP turned off. Make sure those drivers are up to date. Try both the front and back audio ports on your motherboard.

 

If none of that helps, there are a couple of possiblities; one, you just don't like the sound of the clouds, or you might need to go for an external amp/DAC.

I don't really watch gear review vids much, but why is tek syndicate still saying 'the higher the number (ohms) the more power you gonna need'.

 

By his logic, the Hifiman HE-6 50 ohms will be louder than the HyperX, driven with the same source. In reality, based on the specs, HyperX only needs 16mW to get to 110dB loudness, while HE-6 needs 447mW. 'Inject' the same 16mW to the HE-6, and it will only go to 95.5dB, 15dB quieter than the HyperX

 

A lot of people (including some on this forum) said I don't need an extra soundcard for this headset.

 

I have the latest Realtek HD Audio drivers downloaded from my motherboard manufacturer.

Are there any other drivers I have to download?

What is DSP and how do I turn it off?

 

First thing to do is to try it with other sources, like ipod, ipad, smartphone, etc, and hear how it sounds. If it's just as 'bad', then it's really is the headphone. If it turns out to be good with other sources, then the problem lies in the PC's end.

Well it's fine for listening to music, the quality is pretty good then, but in CS:GO it isn't.

It's hard to explain, but it's like the headset is too close to my ears, and some high pitched sounds are uncomfortable for my ears.

If that's the case, it's csgo then, not the headphone.

Then explian me why when ever i dont use the amp/driver , the clouds lower frequency gets lose and flobby ?

Fine , if you say you dont need it then you dont need it .  to bad that the lower frequency is going to be the same as beats by dre , floppy and moddy and lose .

i have a question , would you buy a driver/AMP if you brought a beyerdynamic headphone if it had 60 ohms of inpidiance ?

No I wouldn't and that's a bunch of balony.. that the bass get's "floppy" without a soundcard.

Your comparing a high end $1,500 headset to a gaming cloud headset.. that's around $100 dollars..

As a matter of fact we got a living breathing proof here, dark_wizzie. He has plugged his HD800 everywhere, from onboard to his cell phone, all resulted in his standard listening loudness.

 

I've said in a few post above, if only you took a little time reading it. HE-6 50ohms needs 447mW of power to produce 110dB of sound, while the cloud 60 ohms only needs 16 watt. So, in this case, the 50 ohms headphone needs 28x more power than the 60 ohms one. Meditate on that for a moment, let it sink. Of course you're welcome to crosscheck it in other places. Just ask a simple question in forums like head-fi, 'is it true that the HE-6 50 ohms is a lot harder to drive than, say, DT990 250 ohms??' 

 

Ohms in headphones is the impedance value. It's called impedance because audio is AC current, but it behaves more or less like a plain resistor. What it does in electrical signal is resist some of the electric flow going through the transducer. It's a balanced triangle, voltage, current, impedance. The easiest observable thing is that put a resistance in an electric flow, and the voltage will drop a bit. How much? Can't really tell without knowing the current draw. 

 

To determine how hard it is to push a headphone to the desired volume, the major factor is efficiency, not impedance.

 

Saying a headphone is hard to drive based on impedance value alone is like saying GMC Yukon is faster than an F1, because Yukon got 6200cc engine capacity, while F1 only got 1600cc (2014 regulation)
