Mic not picking up audio

I'm currently using tritton ax pros that connect using usb for the mic and optical for audio. The audio part works fine but the mic part doesn't. The mic is detected in windows and isn't muted but still doesn't work. I haven't used the mic part in over a month but before it worked fine. I've also tried to use different mics and the same thing happens, shows up in windows but doesn't pick up any audio. Any help would be appreciated.  OS is windows 8.1

what are you needing to pick up skype???

make sure you have the right device selected in the program

 

I need it for Skype mainly, but it doesn't work in anything (cs:go, steam, skype ect). I made sure that it is selected in the settings tab but still doesn't pick up anything.
