The Waiting Game.

Go to solution Solved by LegacyStijncat,

Agh this is getting deeper... (thats what she said joke) anyways.... um.. yeah.... I guess I'm just going with no upgrades :/

If you need to upgrade (computer too slow or not fullfilling your requierements) --> Upgrade.

Trying/attempting futureproofing --> don't upgrade.

Simple as that!

Well I am back in to the waiting game, the game of computers in general...

I am happy with my mac for a while now, have built numerous pc for my self and others, etc....

But it seems that I am back (i mean everyone) is back in to the waiting game.

As every company is trying to smash all new tech in to 2015, there is bottlenecks here and there (in my opinion).

my question is not should I wait, its how long do you think I need to wait for....

So. since maximus formula vii is released without support for DDR4 (as far as I know), I cant replace my current one due to future proofingey of ddr4....

and also 5th gen cpu is coming out... aghhhhhhh

so should I wait for maximus viii formula and get a 5970k or something.... as a upgrade???

(btw since i don't game that much I don't bother on expensive graphic cards, just a decent one I would probably be still using my 770)

Agh I dont know...

how long do i have to wait?

Really depends what you use your PC for, the next gen intel CPUs I doubt are going to be that much of an improvement over what we have now, and there will always be something better around the corner

I agree but ddr4 is somthing I need to wait for, like ddr4 makes ddr3 looks something out of the 1990s

Not really... it hardly seems to benefit anything, about 3% difference according to this anandtech article

and improvements in ram isn't somthing that happens very often either, also Btw I do mostly graphic editing video editing programing, nothing that intense, I go to this place where they have a render farm to render out stuff, so rendering is not a big thing I would be doing either.

DDR4 will become a standard but it may take a while, and the performance of DDR3 is still great.

Newer generations of i3, i5, i7 mostly only improve TDP's and that stuff. Good for your power bill but not worth that much extra money.

And finally, as our Lord and Saviour Linus once said:

Games fare better from fewer, faster cores than multiple slower ones. -Linus Sebastian, SomeWhereInBetween1900-2100

So just go with a great 4 core, it'll be enough.

EDIT: Also, even though the speed of DDR4 is great, the latencies are still ugly. I don't know if they will improve over time, but they probably will become better due to technology improvements. But at the moment, eww.

Basic guide to CPU's!

If I said I were 14, you would call me a kid. If I say 70, you’ll entitle me too old. If I say 20 you say I’m inexperienced and if I say 40 than I'm too boring.

"on paper" is never a great way to judge anything - on paper an FX8350 sounds more powerful than an i5 and i7 , but in practice an i7 walks all over it for most tasks

Ddr4 I'd highly unnessecary, it will only make about a 3% difference and is only for servers. For gaming its way overkill
