$50 of on 4690k, should i buy one just because?

So i can buy a 4690k downpriced from $287 to $239 (swedish prices...) I dont need it, but i was thinking maybe for a lan build or something?

Is it worth it?

inb4 if you have money for it.

I kind of have, but still no, its not a sacrifice nor is it a whatever situation, thats why im asking if its worth it.

Well you must have money for a whole new build not just the cpu, I wouldn't go for it if I didn't need it

If you don't have anything in mind for it keep your money... otherwise go for it.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Really, it depends on how much you will use and how to find if it's worth it.

I'd say go for it but only if you really will use it.

Throw it in a mini-itx build with a GTX 960 + Single-Rad in a Cooler Master Elite 130 or Silverstone RVZ01B

Both are good cases.

(you could fit a 970 in either one)

I'd still recommend a Xeon E3 1231 V3 over that i5 however (but Swedish prices will affect you negatively)

For the Best builds and Price lists here is a world where many points of the price have been predefined already for your convenience!

The Xeon E3 1231 V3 IS BETTER Than the Core i5 4690K and a Significantly better value for the non-overclockers or value shoppers.

The OS is like a kind food, Try it before saying if you like it or don't.

If there's a specific reason then go ahead, but if not then I wouldn't recommend it.

with skylake/broadwell around the corner I expect some nice discounts on the haswell stuff... unless you have a need for it I wouldnt buy it

that is true, didnt think of that :P

im kind of interested in building a lan pc, planning on going to dh winter, and i cant really get myself to bring a massive 750d with a 5930k and 2 970s inside xD

If you want a good spec LAN rig then the 4690 would be ideal, though you will then need a socket 1150 mobo as well... depends on how much you want to spend as going for new gear is always fairly epxensive. my LAN rig consists of entirely second hand components in a new case.

$50 old office pc (i5-2400 & 4gb ddr3 & 500gb hdd)

$70 ITX 1155 board

$80 GTX480

$35 850w psu

$99 bitphenix case

Total cost being $334 AUD - this is less than the cost of a new 4690k alone.  I can tolerate reducing graphics settings while at LANS to ensure playability but this rig can play gta5.

what would be a cheap/the cheapest chip and mobo combo without bottlenecking the 970 too much?

ive seen an i5-3470 bottleneck GTA5...

a 2500k or a 3570k on an lga 1155 board that can overclock would be ideal - the "K" chips are still worth a bit of coin whereas the locked variants can be had pretty cheap.

as always there is a trade between price and performance. each game relies on the CPU differently so its hard to say what CPU will not bottleneck a 970
